  • The Social Scent Company makes a signature range of scented natural soy wax candles and scented wax hanging scents. These are handmade in small batches with love and care and infused with floral scents.

The candles are 100% soy wax, free from paraffin, GMO and unnatural additives. Fragrance oils are phthalate-free fragrances and natural cotton wicks are used, meaning you will be breathing in a clean burning scent.

  • The first burn of your candle is the most important

Upon first lighting, burn the candle right to the edge until its entire surface has liquefied. Otherwise, it will only ever melt to where you first burnt it and make a tunnel down the centre of the candle. This usually takes three hours depending on the size of the candle.

    Choose a heat-resistant surface.

Always make sure the surface, on which you burn your candle, is heat-resistant and stable. This will prevent potential heat damage, as well as ensuring the candle’s container does not break.

Be present while burning your candle

Never leave your candle unattended and don't leave your candle lit while you're sleeping. Accidents can and do happen. Also keep your candle away from flammable objects, and away from any children or pets who might knock it over.

    Timing is everything

Candles are only designed to burn for 3-4 hours at a time. Burning for longer than this causes the candle to become too hot, and this can damage fragrance oils and cause your candle to put off soot.

    Trim the wick

We recommend trimming the wick after every burn. This will prevent your candle from smoking on its next burn and burning the sides of the container. When trimming, make sure the flame is extinguished and the candle has set again. Trim the wick to approximately 0.5cm.

    Keep it clean

It’s not uncommon for black soot to form on the inside of your candle’s container. If that happens, extinguish the candle, wait for it to cool, then wipe the inside with a clean, damp cloth.

    Know when to say goodbye

It’s hard saying goodbye to your favourite candles, but it isn’t worth the possible heat damage that can occur if you don’t. When only 5mm of wax remains at the bottom of the jar, it’s time to discontinue use, as continuing to burn can be dangerous.

    Save the container

The candle may be gone, but its container can be repurposed. To remove any residual wax, place the candle in the freezer for two hours and take out the wax with a knife so it can be cleaned.
